5TH URAL INDUSTRIAL BIENNALE OF CONTEMPORARY ART

Xiaoyu Weng

Curator of the Main Project of the 5th Ural Industrial Biennial of Contemporary Art.

Curator at the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum in New York. In 2015, Ms. Weng was appointed to co-head The Robert H. N. Ho Family Foundation Chinese Art Initiative. Previously she served as the founding director of the Kadist Art Foundation’s Asia Programs, Paris and San Francisco. She launched the Kadist Curatorial Collaboration, which organizes exhibitions that stimulate cultural exchange, and she oversaw artist residencies and the building of the contemporary Asian art collection. From 2009 to 2010, she worked as a curator at the Wattis Institute for Contemporary Arts at the California College of the Arts (CCA). Her other recent projects include  Soft Crash at Galleria d’Arte Moderna e Contemporanea di Bergamo, Italy (2016); Robert Zhao Renhui: Flies Prefer Yellow at Kadist Art Foundation, San Francisco (2014–15); Landscape: the virtual, the actual, the possible? at Guangdong Times Museum, Guangzhou, and Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, San Francisco (2014); Invisible Hand: Curating as Gesture, the second CAFAM International Biennial at Central Academy of Fine Arts Museum, Beijing (2014); and Ming Wong: Making Chinatown at Kadist Art Foundation, San Francisco (2013).

Weng is the recipient of the 2017 Visionary Awards, which are presented by Art in General, New York, to highlight work that champions the transformative power of art and that nurtures and supports diverse artistic talents. Weng was selected for her innovative leadership and singular contributions to the field. She was also the winner of the eighth edition of Premio Lorenzo Bonald per L’Arte Enterprize for international curators in 2015.

Alisa Prudnikova

Commissioner and Artistic director of the 5th Ural Industrial Biennial of Contemporary Art.

Director of the Ural Branch NCCA (2005-2016), director of “New Art” – a regional public foundation for support and development of contemporary arts (2013-2016). Ms. Prudnikova has lectured at the Department of Art History and Cultural Studies at the Ural Federal University, curated numerous exhibitions in Russia and widely abroad. From 2002 to 2008 she was the editor-in-chief of “ZA ART – arts and culture”, a magazine  devoted to putting local cultural and art scenes in the international analytical context. She served as an expert (2006-2008, 2011-2013, 2018) and a juror (2009) of “Innovation”, the first Russian national award in contemporary arts. She is a winner of the Silver Archer Ural (2014, 2015) and Caryatid (2013) Awards, a laureate of the “Innovation” in 2015 and 2018. Ms. Prudnikova has worked to promote strategies for regional development through contemporary art practices in the framework of the national project of the Houses of New Culture, the Advisory Board for the Minister of Culture of the Russian Federation (2013-2016). Ms. Prudnikova is a board member of the International Biennial Association (IBA).

Kristina Gorlanova

Curator of the Artist-in-Residence Program of the 5th Ural Industrial Biennial of Contemporary Art.

Kristina is the head of the Museum of Photography “Metenkov’s House” at Yekaterinburg History Museum. She is co-founder and a curator of the art residency program “New Stories of Yekaterinburg”, the program for artists working with the photography medium. 

She completed her specialist degree in project management at Ural State Technical University in 2008 and Bachelor of Arts in photography at the University of the Arts London in 2013. 

Kristina continues her practice as an artist, and currently lives and works in Yekaterinburg.

Psychologist, art historian, expert in the field of museum education. Curator of educational projects of the Ural branch of the State Museum and Exhibition Center ROSIZO. Since 2015, she has been curating the mediation program of the Ural Industrial Biennial of Contemporary Art, which has been longlisted for the Innovation-2017 Award. Daria designs lecture courses, workshops, tours and other formats of educational events. She has been a member of the research group and co-author of the publication “Something New and Unexpected: Research of the Audience of Contemporary Art in Russia” (2017–2018).
